Morgan had appointments today with both the endorcinologist and surgeon. She had two ultrasounds done, bloodwork and another test to check her iodine level.
The surgeon went over the pathology results with us. They took the entire thyroid out and found that it had a 4.7 cm tumor. The took 50 lymph glands, 34 of them were cancerous.
The ultrasounds looked good. The saw a few lymph glands that looked as if they were benign tumors and a few more lymph glands that looked as if they had traces of cancer, but nothing that they thought the radioactive iodine treatment would not take care of.
Her calcium levels are back in the normal range, which means that he parathyroid glands have started working again. She is able to be taken off from one of the calcium supplements next week and will reduce the dosage on the other one. Her calcium levels will be tested again in three months.
Her iodine levels were tested today and will be tested again two weeks prior to the radioactive iodine treatment. They are looking at having the treatment done in late April or early May. We were given a lot of information regarding the treatment and ways to lower iodine intake prior to the treatment.
All in all a very good day. We were very glad to get test result and see much better ultrasounds! Now we can move on to the next phase of treatment.
She went to school full days this week, taking the Ohio Graduation Test each morning. She says that she is less tired now than she was before surgery. Her voice is sounding stronger each day. It is awesome to see such great progress - our God is so good!
Thank you all again for your prayers, notes, and thoughts. All of the outpouring of love has been very encouraging to all of us.
Kim

ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the positive information from her appointments. Thanks for the updates. Thirty-four cancerous lymph glands is a lot! Also glad to hear that she is caught up with school assignments and that the Ohio test is behind her. God is good. I am looking forward to our weekend away next week! - Chris
ReplyDeleteWhew...that's a lot of lymph glands to remove! Good to hear that they think that only a trace may remain and it will be taken out with the radioactive treatment. What an ordeal...hoepfully the worst part will soon be behind you. Really looking forward to seeing you next weekend. All my love to the whole family and a big hug for Morgan...we love you sweetie.
